Felicitating Padmashri Shri Limbaram
Legendary archer Shri Limba Ram, who equaled a world record and almost clinched a medal at the Olympic Games in 1992 to put Indian on the archery map for the first time, has been battling with a neurodegenerative disease since the last four years. While generous support for the Padma Shri and Arjuna Award- recipient archer’s treatment has come from a few quarters, this fight is certainly a tough one.Shri Limba Ram’s family requires timely intervention for medications.
The President of the Krishnagar Natun Kalipur Cultural and Welfare Society in Nadia district in West Bengal, an admirer of Shri Limba Ram, Mr Premasis Bhattacharjee has come forward to support the ailing legend’s treatment by bearing the expenses for his medicines as long as it takes for his recovery.
On this occasion, Mr Premasis Bhattacharjee, President of the Krishnagar Natun Kalipur Cultural and Welfare Society, said, “Shri Limba Ram made Indian archery famous across the globe when he equaled the world record in 1992, and almost clinched a medal in the Olympic Games in the same year in Barcelona. We all remember the pride and joy he brought to the entire country. Today, when Shri Limba Ram is fighting a different type of battle in the hospital, as his admirer and supporter, I and the Krishnagar Natun Kalipur Cultural and Welfare Society will support his fight by taking care of all the expenses for his medicines as long as it takes for his recovery. This is the least we can do for a national hero.”
On this occasion, the legendary archery Shri Limba Ram said, “I am thankful to the President of the Krishnagar Natun Kalipur Cultural and Welfare Society, Mr Premasis Bhattacharjee for his generosity and support. Sportspersons give their best to the country and in the twilight years one feels comforted to get such support from fellow country-men.”
